Come join the excitement at the Bloomer Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, March 30! The fun starts promptly at 10 a.m. at Bloomer Elementary School and is open to those from one to 12 years old. Children will have an opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny and Mr. Chick and hunt for eggs. There will be 3,000 eggs hidden – all with candy – and some with coupons for prizes of all different sizes! Don’t miss this festive event!

Although there’s no definitive answer on why we hide and hunt for Easter eggs, some say it symbolizes the search for new beginnings and the emergence of life after winter. (We like to think it’s a wonderful family tradition that gives us the opportunity to create lasting memories together.) Here are a few other Easter traditions:

  • Ham is a popular Easter food that may have come about by default. Pigs are typically slaughtered in the fall and would have had plenty of time to cure over the winter – making them a perfect spring food.
  • The Easter bonnet, often decorated with flowers, became a popular addition to donning your “Sunday best” and represents renewal (something new) and rebirth (the flowers).
  • Since Easter comes in the fall for New Zealanders and Australians, hot cross buns are a cozy, popular Easter treat.
  • In Northern Europe, many communities light Easter fires to help chase away the cold and dark winter and welcome in spring.
  • The most adorable Easter tradition is in Finland where Easter witches roam the streets on Palm Sunday. Children wear colorful clothes, paint their cheeks red and don their face with freckles. They go door-to-door with a magical willow twig decorated with feathers and crepe paper and recite a blessing to drive away evil spirits in exchange for a chocolate egg.

And speaking of chocolate eggs, here are the Bloomer Broadband team’s favorite Easter treats:

  • Reese’s Eggs
  • Classic chocolate bunny (although caramel-filled bunnies are delicious, too!)
  • Jellybeans
  • Peeps

The Bloomer Broadband team wishes you and yours a very hoppy Easter! 🐣🐇💐 May your day be egg-stra special and filled with fun!
